To date, the histories of Hinduism, Indian Islam, Sikhism and Indian Christianity have been written separately. At the same time, this practice is questioned by current scholarly debates. However, a comprehensive outline for a general religious history of that region is still missing. The project might help to fill the gap. Its aim is a comprehensive religious history of India from the 16th to the beginning of the 20th century.
