项目摘要

２０２２年度は、（１）本研究の課題にかかわる先行研究の収集とその批判的な読解をしつつ、既に収集済みの一次史料の読解と分析を行った。並行して、（２）これまでの研究の成果をまとめて、学会で報告するとともに、（３）単著の出版に向けて執筆作業を進めた。（１）本研究の主題は、２０世紀前半の南アフリカ農村部における貧困およびそれと密接にかかわる諸問題を把握しつつ、そうした問題に対してアフリカ人の救済を掲げていたヨーロッパ人・アフリカ人協議会（以下、協議会）がいかなる姿勢を示したのかを検討することにある。史料や二次文献の分析を通じて、農村部におけるアフリカ人の貧困が、出稼ぎ労働を主軸とする労働制度や、就業可能な職や労働のための移動を管理していたパス法およびカラーバー、課税を通じた労働の間接的強制といった諸要素と密接不可分の関係にあることが分かってきた。また、そうした問題に対して、協議会は、農村部の開発やカラーバーの撤廃、アフリカ人労働者の賃上げなどを主張する一方で、都市部にアフリカ人が集中することで生じる諸問題（賃金低下や異人種間の混淆など）を懸念し、一定程度の人種隔離を肯定していたことが明らかになってきた。（２）以上のような成果をまとめ、第９１回社会経済史学会全国大会（２０２２年５月）で報告を行った。これは、近代イギリスにおける不自由な労働を考察することを目的とした科研グループによるパネルセッションだが、報告内容の一部は本科研の研究成果である。（３）並行して、本科研での研究内容も盛り込んだ単著の出版を準備しており、（１）や（２）の成果も取り込みながら執筆作業を進めた。４章（予定）からなる本論部分のうち、２章分の草稿を書き、出版社に提出した。
