本研究は、防衛的悲観主義の認知的方略を用いているアスリートに着目し、競技場面における認知的方略とパフォーマンスの関係について明らかにすることを目的としている。防衛的悲観主義のアスリートは、将来の遂行において悲観的になることで、考えをめぐらせることや入念な準備を行い、その結果高い成績を維持しているという特徴を持つ。防衛的悲観主義者は、物事を悪い方に考えることで成功している適応的な悲観者であるとされている（Norem & Cantor，1986)。これまでのアスリートを対象とした防衛的悲観主義に関する研究は、認知的方略のタイプを比較し、その特徴を明らかにすることを目的とした研究が大半であり、防衛的悲観主義の認知的方略とパフォーマンスとの関係については、未だ十分な実証的検証がなされていない。悲観的認知が高いパフォーマンス発揮につながるメカニズムを明らかにすることで、認知的方略の個人差を踏まえたアスリート支援や競技指導が可能となる点が、本研究の意義である。2022年度は、アスリート版認知的方略尺度の開発に取り組んだ。予備調査として、国内外の既存の認知的方略尺度から精選した項目による尺度を作成し、大学生アスリートを対象にインターネットでの質問調査を実施した。その結果、競技スポーツ場面における認知的方略を的確に捉えられていないことが確認された。そこで次に、アスリートおよび心理サポート担当者を対象とした一対一の半構造化インタビューを実施し、尺度項目表現の精選を試みた。現在、インタビューから得られた結果をもとに尺度項目表現の修正に取り組んでいる。一連の研究成果を学会で発表している。
