2022年度は、本研究が採択された新型コロナ禍突入後、初めてフィールドワークが可能になったため、調査実績を積むことに重点を置いた。7月、9月、3月と、これまで世界のイレズミについて取材してきた人や、彫師に対して、申請者が調査・考察するイレズミの機能を詳らかにするような、1980年代以降の歴史的動向や、各彫師の制作の状況及び顧客との関係について調査できた。同時に、本研究の最終年度の2023年度の成果発表（口頭発表、論文・書籍等での発表）のための質的調査をする基盤が築けた点が大きな成果であった。
