项目摘要

徂徠は『問槎畸賞』で古文辞論に基づいて通信使の詩を激しく批判した。理論的根拠を持って通信使の文学を批判するのは徂徠が初めてであった。しかし朝鮮で古文辞論が流行したのは17世紀であり、18世紀には既に衰退し唐詩を中心にいろんな詩風を学習するのが一般的な状況であった。このような朝鮮の状況を徂徠は知らなかった。徂徠が『問槎畸賞』で誇張した語調の手紙と評語、序文、跋文などを収録し通信使を激しくけなしたのは徂徠学派の優越性を日本の文壇に知らせるための意図であったと考えられる。徂徠学は当時朱子学派および唐宋古文を主張する文士たちの反発を買わざるを得なかったのだが、このような状況を打開し短期間で自派の名声を高めるためには日本の文壇で権威をもっていた通信使を批判するのが効果的だと徂徠は判断していたものと考えられる。このような文学における通信使に対する優越意識を「文明的優越意識」と言える。一方「麗奴戯馬歌」で徂徠は馬上才を逃亡するのに使う下賤な技芸だとけなしている。さらに「贈朝鮮使序」、「徠翁答江生書」などでは武力を用いて朝鮮を蹂躙したことを自慢げに語っている。文明ではなく武威で朝鮮を屈服させて以来、朝鮮が朝貢をしているという、事実とはかけ離れた自己中心的で排他的な認識を徂徠は持っていたものとみられる。当時多数の儒学者は古代から日本が韓半島を武力で服属させたと信じていたが徂徠も例外ではなかった。このような認識を「武威による優越意識」だということができる。「水足氏父子詩巻序」により「武威による優越意識」は「文明的優越意識」と正反対の地点にありながらも内的には連結していることが分かる。儒学と漢文のような中華文明を成就させているという点で朝鮮は尊崇の対象であった。しかし徂徠の登場で文明の持ち主としての朝鮮の権威が傷つき、「武威」に加え「文明」においても優越意識が生じたと見なすことができる。
