ヘイゲン博士が,その学位論文において展開した(荀子の思想における)儒教的構造主義の考えは,要するに(一見すると,人間本性の自然に,言い換えれば,アニプリオリテートに由来し,従って人間存在にとって一種"必然的"であると見做されがちな)人間社会の規範や道徳的規律等(それらは言うまでもなく,いわゆる自然主義的誤謬を含むものである)が,実際のところ,荀子がその思想において展開し主張した通り,人間社会の確固たる調和を目指して,知的レベルで論理的に導かれるものである,という極めて卓越した考え方である。上記のような考え方が,我が国江戸時代の儒者である荻生徂徠と伊藤仁斎の思想中にも見られ,それらの思想学説を研究し分析することを通じて,現代における文化的相対主義や道徳実在論といった哲学的課題に応え,現代に活きる,あらたな世界観を構築せんとするのが,外ならぬ本研究最大の眼目であるが,本年(平成15年)度は,まず第一に,本研究に基本的な資料(第一資料たる原典,および内外の研究書)を収集し,即それらの講読・分析を行なったところ,先に述べたような思想が,特に徂徠の『弁道』・『弁名』,そして仁斎の『語孟字義』等において確認され,現在さらにその思想の内容について(特に仁斎の場合は,倫理学的自然主義の問題に沿って)詳細な研究を行なっている。さらに又,この儒教的構造主義の考え方を,いわゆる"基本的人権"の問題において展開し,まとめたものが,ヘイゲン博士の"A Philosophical Defense of the East Asian Challenge to Human Rights"である。そこにおいては,上記の如き考え方が,いわゆる"基本的人権"の問題に対していかんなく展開され,基本的人権の哲学的(本質とその)裏付けが提示されている。尚,この論文は,来たる平成16年6月19日-20日のAsian Studies Conference Japan(於上智大学)において舘野が座長を務めるパネルにおいて発表される予定である。以上の成果を踏まえ,更に研究を続行中である。
