项目摘要

15世紀中葉から20世紀初頭に至るまで、オスマン帝国の首都だったイスタンブルは、ムスリムや正教会信徒、アルメニア教会信徒、ユダヤ教徒など、宗教・宗派の面で多様な人々を内包したことを特徴としていた。本研究は、これまでの研究が注目してきた政治権力と各宗派集団との縦の関係だけでなく、多様な宗派集団間の横の関係をふまえたオスマン帝国史理解の構築に資するべく、イスタンブルの事例から宗派集団の関係に注目し、都市社会史の観点からオスマン帝国の近代国家化が宗派集団間の関係に及ぼした影響を明らかにすることを目的としている。これにより本研究は、歴史的な観点から多文化社会がどのように機能し、そのあり方が近世から近代へと移行する過程においてどのように変化したのかについて理解するための手がかりを提供することを目指している。こうした目的を達成するために、本研究では、2022年度から2023年度にかけてイスタンブルにてボアジチ大学のヤシャル・トルガ・ジョラ氏と共同研究を行うことを計画し、2022年度においては氏の協力のもと、大統領府オスマン文書館やボアジチ大学にて研究を進め、とくにオスマン帝国が残した文書群の調査において、本研究課題に関わる数多くの有益な史料を発見するに至った。また、同じくジョラ氏の協力のもとでオスマン帝国期末期に設置されたシシリの非ムスリム墓地の調査も行うことができ、さらに、成果発表の場として研究会を開催する準備も進めることができた。
