本年度は、以下2点について研究を進めた。1) 青果物市場価格・家計調査を用いて、各品目に対する家計の支出シェアの類似性が高い地域間でそれらの品目の市場価格が連動することについて、昨年度に得た暫定的結果を洗練した。具体的には、地域間の価格連動が共通の青果物産地を介した価格裁定を介して起こる効果を制御し、地域間の嗜好類似性を介して生ずる価格の連動性について、より純粋な効果を推定する方法を開発した。現在、政府統計データの更新手続き中であるため、ディスカッション・ペーパー化はデータ更新まで延期するが、共通産地を介した価格裁定の効果を除いても地域間の嗜好類似性に起因する地域間の価格連動効果を確認した。2) 代替的な市場統合のメカニズムとして、中心地理論に整合する内生的地域経済圏形成を、日米のデータを用いて示した。中心地理論では、財の多様性とそれに伴う財市場の空間規模の多様性が都市群の人口規模と階層的な空間配置を決定する。鍵になるのは規模の経済や輸送費に対する感度についての財の多様性である。輸送費感度が低い財を供給する企業は遠隔地においても競争力を維持し広大な市場範囲を獲得する。これらの企業はローカルな市場が大きい大都市のみに立地し、そこから広範囲に供給する。逆に輸送費感度が高い産業は多くの都市に立地し、その都市の近辺市場に供給する。このように産業によって立地の空間頻度は異なるが、一方で共通の消費者を介して発生する正の需要外部性により立地都市は重なる傾向にあり、産業立地は空間的な階層構造を持つ。結果として、大都市とそれを取り囲む小都市群が地域経済圏を形成する。同定した地域経済圏の境界を跨ぐとき、貿易財の種類数の減少により貿易量が離散的に減少することを示し、ディスカッション・ペーパーとして公開した。
