外国人特別研究員に係る本研究は、危機言語となっている琉球諸語諸方言の文法記述を中心的な目的とするものである。琉球諸語諸方言のうち、いずれも北琉球語に属する鳥島方言、久米島具志川方言、久米島謝名堂方言、読谷村楚辺方言、沖永良部島正名方言に関わる調査・研究を行うことができた。また、調査地等において今後の方言調査を円滑に進める上での人脈作りにも努めた。今年度もコロナ禍のなか臨地調査に多くの制約が生じたが、当該の研究員は久米島で３度にわたり集中的な調査を行っている。その中で、鳥島方言のアクセント資料（名詞のアクセント）、文法資料（名詞形態論、とりたて、動詞形態論、形容詞形態論、複文など）、話者同士の自然談話資料（約１時間半）を収集することができた。さらには、久米島においては、旧具志川村の具志川方言談話資料（約１時間）および旧仲里村の謝名堂方言談話資料（約２時間）を録音・収集することができた。方言談話資料については、沖縄島内の那覇市泊方言（３時間）、那覇市国場方言（２時間）、うるま市石川方言（２時間）も収集している。このように収集した方言談話資料については、これから「文字起こし」等を行い、琉球諸語研究の基礎資料としてまとめる予定である。また、これまで収集した資料からも、琉球諸語諸方言の分析を進め、論文化することができた。読谷村楚辺方言では中止形、沖永良部島正名方言では名詞形態論に関する資料をまとめ、それぞれ論文を執筆して公開するに至った。その他、これら資料を基盤に、ポリノミックモデルを活用して、琉球語諸方言の学習のための教材作りも行っている。応用言語学の考えを援用しつつ、今後の琉球諸語諸方言の普及・継承に生かしていく予定である。
