「コミュニティ立脚型」の政策の失敗事例が多く報告され、また、ボトムアップのコミュニティ活動も困難を抱える中、本研究は、コミュニティを多層的で動的なプロセスととらえかえすことにより、そうした現状に対して学術的な貢献を試みようとしている。この目的の下、2022年度は3回の研究会を開いた。第1回研究会（対面）では、まず、ある農村地域の農泊事業につどう若者たちのコミュニティに関する調査報告が行なわれた。そこでは、滞在者が軸になったさまざまなコミュニティ実践が存在していることが示唆された。さらに第1回研究会では、自分たちのコミュニティを内省的に振り返って共有し議論する、ということを試みた。プロジェクトメンバー全員が自分にとってのコミュニティ・ヒストリーを洗い出し、分析し、それを報告して議論した。第2回研究会（オンライン）は、奄美の小さなコミュニティにおける自然資源管理と地域づくりについての報告が行なわれ、そこにおける自然資源との多様な関係、および、多様な集落事業が重層的なコミュニティを生みだしていることが示唆された。第3回研究会（対面）は、2つ報告があり、1つめの報告では、外国人を多く含む公営団地のコミュニティを事例に、「コミュニティ政策」と当事者たちのズレなどが議論された。2つめ報告では、社会運動が繰り広げられたある地域について、その歴史を詳しくたどりながら、社会運動とコミュニティの相互作用について議論が行なわれた。一方、この研究プロジェクトの軸であるフィールド調査については、ようやく本格的な調査ができるようになった。北海道、青森、秋田、静岡、愛知などでの調査が遂行され、データも集まりつつある。さらには、研究メンバーの過去の調査データを、この研究フレームワークで分析し直すという作業や、世界のコミュニティ研究を渉猟する作業も行われた。
