2021年度は2020年度の研究結果を踏まえ、研究対象の英語表現（時制と相）に関する受容能力評価テストを開発した。具体的には、英文に加え、時制（過去・現在）と相（完了相・進行相）を視覚的に描写したイラストや時間軸など、発話される状況をより具体的に描写する概念図を加えるなどの改良を加えた新たなテストを開発した。開発したテストはコンピュータ画面上に示された英語表現（例、現在完了形）の解釈の妥当性を４段階で判断する課題であった。改良されたテストの妥当性及び信頼性を評価するため、データ収集を行った。研究参加者（日本人大学生と英語母語話者（米在住）各251人）のうち、概念図を適切に理解した者（80%以上の正確性を基準：日本人181人、英語母語話者185人）を対象に分析した結果、英語母語話者と日本人英語学習者では、読み受容判断に差があることが明らかになった。具体的には、読み方が大きく異なるというわけではないが、英語母語話者の方が日本人学習者よりも典型外の読みを受容していた。特に、完了・経験読みで英語母語話者と日本人英語学習者との差異が大きかった。また、典型的に「習慣」を誘発する繰り返しを示唆する副詞（e.g., every day, since 2017）を伴う文について、母語話者の方が典型外の文を受容していたのに対し、日本人学習者は「副詞」によって「読み」を選んでいる可能性が示された。これらの結果から、英語母語話者のような、現在完了形に対する、より柔軟な解釈には、現在時制と完了相について根源的な概念理解の必要性が示唆された。
