本年度の研究では、高専生英語学習者の3年間の語彙サイズの発達に影響を及ぼすとされる個人差要因を検討した。1年～3年次の4月（各第1時点～第3時点）と3年次の12月（第4時点）に、語彙学習方略、動機づけ、自己効力感、および学習時間に関する質問紙を実施したものに統計処理を行った。第4時点では、自由記述式の質問紙を実施したものを質的に分析することを試みた。量的データは、内容分析、主成分分析、信頼性分析を組み合わせて、より小さな変数に絞り込んで分析に使用した。語彙学習方略使用に関する学習者の特徴を明らかにするために、クラスター分析を用いた。各時点における語彙サイズを被験者内因子とし、方略使用クラスターを被験者間因子とする2要因混合の反復測定分散分析の結果、方略使用頻度が学習者の最終的な語彙サイズとその発達速度に正の影響を与えていたことが分かった。さらに、構造方程式モデリングを用いて、変数間の関係を検証した結果、動機づけは方略使用と学習時間への影響を通じて、間接的にしか語彙サイズへ影響を及ぼさないことが示された。語彙サイズの大きさは自己効力感に正の影響を及ぼし、動機づけを高めるという好循環を生み出していた。質的分析では、KHコーダーを用いて分析した。第4時点で特定された3つの語彙学習方略使用のクラスターから実際に使用された方略使用の記述を抽出し、上位群と下位群の方略使用のパターンと具体的な方略の種類を確認し、メタ認知、グループ化、コンテクスト化といった高次の方略が上位群で、単語だけに焦点に焦点を当てた繰り返し、英語に対する和訳といった機械的な反復方略が下位群に特徴的な方略であることが示された。また、動機づけに関しては、上位群は国際志向性、内発的動機づけが顕著であるのに対し、下位群では、留年やテストでの低得点回避といった要素が英語学習への動機を支えていることが分かった。
