現在、2022年度に Migration and Development というジャーナルに掲載された自分の論文の続きをやっている途中である。その論文では、難民申請者の母国と申請先の国との文化的相違（あるいは類似）が難民申請者のフローに対して有意であるとの結果を得た。また、その論文では、文化的相違や類似を測るデータとして、６つの側面から各国の文化を指数化したホフステッド指数を利用した。2022年度にとりかかったことは、その指数を用いた国同士の文化的距離の数値化である。文化的距離を数値化したうえで、空間計量経済学の手法を用いて、難民申請者と移民のフローのモデルを各々推定し、難民申請者と移民に違いがあるのかを調べるのが目的である。文化的距離の数値化で、手元のデータは上記の論文で使用したホフステッド指数だけである。しかしながら、移民に関する先行研究では、ホフステッド指数以外のデータを用いたものがある。そのようなデータは必ずしも公開されておらず、現在、著者らに連絡を試みているところである。また、文化的距離の数値化以外に、スピンオフ的に研究したことは社会保障の改革についてのシミュレーションである。難民や移民の先行研究では、社会保障の充実した国に人が集まるという結果がしばしば得られている。移民ならば少々高齢でも出身国で払った年金を利用できるだろうが、難民の場合、出身国の年金を利用するわけにもいかず、受入国で年金を払う期間が短いと引退後に年金支給を受けられなくなってしまう。そこで、仮に年齢に関係なく政府から移転所得を受けられるベーシックインカムを賦課方式の年金制度に代えて国が導入した場合、資産の格差や厚生がどうなるのかを計算した。こちらをまとめた論文は既に査読済みで、Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy に掲載が決まり、最終の校正中である。
