项目摘要

聖母晩年伝の機能研究について、計画していた「④政治的空間における聖母晩年伝の機能」について中心的に研究し、実績をあげることができた。具体的には、聖堂ではなく、政庁舎などの政治的空間に設けられた礼拝堂に描かれた聖母晩年伝の機能（役割）を考察することを目的としたが、その代表作例であるシエナ政庁舎内礼拝堂壁画（タッデオ・ディ・バルトロ作）と、フォリーニョのパラッツォ・トリンチ内壁画（オッタヴィアーノ・ネッリ作）を扱った。シエナ作例に関しては、当該作例を含む政庁舎内の壁画の内容を記録・観察するフィールドワークを実施すると同時に、史料調査を実施し、政庁舎内の壁画装飾事業の経緯をリスト化した。その結果、教皇グレゴリウス12世の一時的なシエナ滞在の際に、画家を政庁舎内に幽閉するという極端な手段を用いてまで壁画の完成が急がれていたこと、隣接する「バリーアの間」の壁画装飾もほぼ同時期に実施され、こちらには「シエナ出身の教皇アレクサンデル3世にまつわる物語」が選択されていることに着目するに至った。当時、教皇グレゴリウス12世が教会大分裂の危機の最中にシエナに滞在し、教会大分裂の解消に苦心していた背景を念頭に置くならば、シエナの政庁舎内礼拝堂と「バリーアの間」の壁画は、教皇グレゴリウスと都市シエナとの関係性の中で理解できると推定できる。この成果に関する論文は『西洋中世研究』に投稿し、査読の結果待ちである。フォリーニョ作例に関しては、これまで研究し、想定してきた「アヴィニョンの教皇館とヴァチカン宮殿に描かれていた失われた作例」に影響を受けた作例の一つであることを、ラクイラ大学ペッツート氏との共同研究において主張したが、その内容はイタリア語の書籍として2021年4月に出版された。同内容は画家オッタヴィアーノ・ネッリに関する展覧会カタログ（2021年）の論文にて好意的に取り上げられ、評価された。
