本研究は、服喪・斎戒・物忌・精進という異なる目的を持つ諸慣習における一時的な「禁忌」の有り様の比較検討を通して、そこから当該期の服喪慣習の禁忌の特質を解明することを最終的目的とするものである。この4箇年間の検討によって明らかになった点として、服喪慣習は、中国から継受した儒教儀礼として当該期において認識されている一方で、その内実は仏教の精進の影響が目立ち、かつ平安期に確立する、神祇祭祀と仏事との住み分け（神仏隔離）の原則を前提とする服喪と斎戒との差別化、つまり服喪時の禁忌と斎戒時のそれとを対比的なものとする志向の存在が挙げられる。以上は日本古代の服喪慣習を、複数の宗教儀礼の交錯の中に位置づけるものであり、この成果は2023年度中に成稿を予定している単著においてより詳細な発表を行う予定である。また2022年度には、新型コロナウイルス感染症の影響で延期していた、島根県佐太神社の神在祭でのフィールドワーク及び、平安期の服喪・斎戒に関する未翻刻資料の調査を実施した。特に佐太神社神在祭の調査は、文献資料だけでなく、一時的な禁忌をめぐる民俗事例を参照することを意図したものであるが、現地での聞き取り調査及び関連資料の検討の結果、唯一神道などの影響が、当初の見積もり以上に多大なものであることが判明した。ゆえに民俗資料の援用に関しては大きな課題を残す結果となったが、民俗資料の位置づけを含め、中近世における展開については今後の課題としたい。

The application of folkloric data is related to the development of folkloric data in the Middle and Modern Ages.
