本年度は、前年度の研究を踏まえ、日本古代の服喪の実態をより多面的に明らかにすることを目的として、研究ノート「日本古代の廃朝」の執筆、学術誌への投稿を行った。廃朝は、天皇が自身の親族や高位高官の死亡に際して数日間、聴政を停止する行為であるが、拙稿では、廃朝が人の死によって発生する日常生活の停止という点で服喪と近似性を持つと考え、奈良～院政期におけるその長期的展開を検討した。結果、平安前期まで廃朝は、貴族層の死亡に対して天皇が朝廷を代表して行う哀悼表現としての側面が強かったが、天皇制や貴族層の喪葬の変質とも関係して、それが徐々に天皇の個人的な服喪へ変質していくことを指摘した。それと併せて、廃朝と密接な関係を持つ挙哀儀礼（挙哀は葬送などに際して声を挙げて泣く行為であるが、中国において挙哀は廃朝と並んで実施するものとしても規定されている）の日本古代における展開に関しても検討を加えた。従来奈良期において中国からの受容が見られたとする挙哀の実施については疑問が呈され、それが平安期における挙哀の不実施にも繋がることが明らかになった。この内容については本研究期間終了後の口頭報告での発表、その後の論文化を予定している。加えて、前年度の研究で問題提起を行った平安期における墓参慣習について考えるための検討材料とすべく、多賀城や大宰府周辺の墓地や一の谷中世墳墓群での現地調査を行った。また活字化されたものだけでなく、喪葬に関する未翻刻史料の現存状況についても知るべく、東京大学史料編纂所において、同所が開発・運用している史料の画像検索システムなどを参照する形での調査を行った。調査の結果、服喪や山陵奉幣などに関する主として中世以降史料の存在し、そこに平安期にまで遡る史料が引用されていることが分かったため、今後該当史料の写本を所蔵する宮内庁書陵部などでの史料調査を計画している。
