项目摘要

本研究は、人が環境社会問題に向き合う上で、映像メディアがどのような役割を果たしてきたのかを明らかにし、今後の展望を示すことを目的としている。具体的には、福島第一原子力発電所事故後の環境社会問題を扱ったドキュメンタリー映像作品とそれに関連する国内外のドキュメンタリー映像作品を事例に次の 6つの観点から調査し分析することを目指している（申請当初の計画を多少更新した）。1新植民地主義、2エネルギー、3廃棄物、4公共性、5マイノリティ、6動物である。このうち4と6についてはすでに公刊してきた論文を修正・発展させ、将来刊行する予定の書籍に組み込む予定である。2022年度は、2022年5月に4および関連映画の自主上映会に関連する研究成果を含む書籍Making Audiences: A Social History of Japanese Cinema and Media (Oxford University Press)を刊行した。また2に関するものとして、ハーバード大学のアレクサンダー・ザルテン教授との共同企画で2023年1月7-8日の2日間にわたってScreens and Energy（映像とエネルギー）と題したシンポジウムを名古屋大学で開催し、国内外からの9人の発表者とその他の参加者とともに、歴史、エコロジー、メディアの観点から有意義な議論を行なった。加えて、2022年8月にポーランドで開催されたドキュメンタリーの学会（対面参加）と2022年11月にポルトガルで開催されたカルチュラル・スタディーズの学会で口頭発表を行い、質疑応答の中で今後の研究にとって重要な示唆を得た。その他、本研究課題に間接的に関係するものとして2冊の共著書Eco-Disaster Film in Japanと『メディア論の冒険者たち』にそれぞれ寄稿した。
