今年度は、特に戦時期日本における日雇労働者の動員組織＝扶桑会の指導者であった飛田勝造を中心に、当該期の日雇労働者と労務供給請負業者の動向について、研究を進めた。具体的には、飛田が戦時期から戦後にかけて公表した論文やエッセイ、飛田の周辺にいた人びとの証言記録、さらに扶桑会関係の史料の収集・読解をおこなった。その結果、第一に、1920年代から30年代にかけての時期の労務供給請負業者の自己認識について、明らかにすることができた。社会行政による下層社会への介入の強化と総力戦を念頭に置いた日雇労働市場の掌握のなかで、労務供給請負業者は自身の存在意義をあらためて国家や社会に説明することを迫られた。その一つの帰結が、1941年の全日本労務供給事業組合連合会の設立であったことを明らかにした。第二に、労務供給請負業者が様々なかたちで政治権力と結びつき、その「暴力」を一つの資源として提供する役割を担っていたことを明らかにした。飛田は、1930年代後半に政治家や軍人の依頼に応じて選挙活動支援を行ったり、中国における宣伝工作活動に従事したりしている。その実態と歴史的性格について、考察を進めた。第三に、戦後、飛田自身が戦時期の活動についてどのようにとらえていたのかを検証し、その特質を明らかにした。飛田は、戦時期の自らの活動を「労働三法」の実現として理解しており、戦後改革がむしろそれを歪めたと見ているが、その「主観」を日雇労働者の歴史のなかであらためて検証した。以上の研究成果は、2023年2月に開催された、歴史問題研究所民衆史班・アジア民衆史研究会共催「第22回日韓民衆史共同ワークショップ」で報告した。
