自動車重視から「人」優先の道路整備への転換が進みつつあるが、道路拡幅が困難な場合が多数の中、歩行者優先事業は自動車の不便さを増す施策でもある。このような状況を打破するためには、整備効果の提示が不可欠である。本研究では、地域住民が人優先の道路整備の活動に参加するメリットとして、楽しさや快さから得られる幸福としてヘドニア（hedonia）、自己実現や望ましい生き方から得られる幸福としてユーダイモニア（eudaimonia）に着目した。当初予定した調査はコロナ禍において実施時期が適切ではないと判断したため、本年度の検討では、歩行者優先の道路整備が日本より進み、また住民参加による道路整備も実施されているドイツで昨年度実施したウェブアンケート調査の結果を用いた追加検討を行った。設問内容は、地域活動への参加経験や主観的幸福感におけるユーダイモニアの側面に関する項目、自宅前道路に対する所有意識や整備時の費用負担経験、制度の認知、歩行者優先運転行動意識、自宅付近の道路整備状況などである。アンケート調査の結果を用いた共分散構造分析の結果からは、地先前道路に関して「私の道路だ」「所有権が私にもある」「私の生活と一体で欠かせないものだ」「自分たちが管理・改善していくべきだ」といった所有権の意識と道路整備に関わる参加に関連したユーダイモニアの要素として「興味・関心のあることを自分なりに学べた」といった「能力と成長」因子、「自分の時間を他者と共有するのは嬉しかった」といった「社会的関与」因子、「自分なりに社会の役に立ちそうなことをした」といった「親切心・利他心」因子、「生きる目標の一つになりうる」といった「人生の目的」因子に正の相関がみられた。道路整備への住民参加で配慮する事項に関する知見が得られたと考えられる。
