精神障害患者のいる家庭では、家庭内のコミュニケーションが少なく、障害に触れることがあまりないため、その状況下で暮らす子どもは、親の示す精神症状にどのように対応してよいかわからず、戸惑う。また、障害に触れようとしない大人の態度から、「隠さなければいけない」と学習し、内と外を使い分ける行動が子どもの生きづらさにつながっていた。本研究で用いる「メリデン版訪問家族支援」では、精神障害患者のいる家庭に訪問し、症状や生活上の困りごとを語り合ったり、コミュニケーションを円滑にする方法を練習する手法をとるが、これらの介入で互いに理解しあうことは、子どもの生きづらさや自尊心にどのような影響を与えるのかを明らかにする研究を計画した。研究者が対象者宅に訪問してメリデン版訪問家族支援のプログラムを実施する予定であったが、対象家族にうまく出会えず、1事例への実施にとどまっている。実施した1事例については、一定のプログラムを終了し、訪問頻度が空いても、家族内のコミュニケーションが保たれ、家族で問題に対処できているかを確認するフォローアップを行っている。医療機関からの紹介事例は、複雑な事例が多く、導入に結びつきにくいが、引き続き紹介を依頼している状況である。研究者自身の介入によるデータ収集が難しい状況から、研修を受けたファミリーワーカーによって訪問家族支援が実施されたケースにおいて、訪問家族支援の実施が親子のコミュニケーションや子どもの生きづらさに影響するのかを把握するインタビュー調査を実施する計画を立て、現在、研究対象者の紹介をファミリーワーカーに依頼し、インタビュー調査を実施している状況である。
