【研究概要】本研究は、英語を第二言語とする日本人英語学習者が英文読解時に、同じ綴りであるにも関わらず複数の意味を持つとされる同綴異義語（homograph）を視覚的に認知する際に心内でどのように処理するのかを検証し、第二言語における英文読解の認知メカニズムを解明することを目的としている。とりわけ、日本人英語学習者が英文を読む際に同綴異義語を持つ複数の意味を心内でどのように活性化させるのか、単文の文脈においてのみに限定するのではなく、二文以上の文脈において、または文章レベルの文脈においての処理にも焦点を当てながら、心理言語学的手法を用いて、その性質を明らかにすることを目指すものである。【令和四(2022)年度実施内容】令和四(2022)年度では前年度に引き続き、本研究に関連があると思われる第二言語習得、文の理解、単語認知に関する先行研究を調査し、関連分野における最新の研究動向を追うことや関連理論の整理を行った。また調査として、今後中心的に実施する予定である心理言語学的実験手法を用いた実験の予備的調査を開始し、今年度に実施する本調査の準備を進めた。【意義，重要性】新型コロナウィルスの感染拡大による影響で、当初から予定していた心理言語学的実験手法による調査の遂行に困難性が生じていたが、今後の調査実施に関連して具体的な進展があったことは研究遂行のために意義、重要性があったと思われる。また、文献調査を継続的に行い、本研究課題に特に関連性があると思われる理論や、関連性の高い実証研究の動向を把握しておくことは、本研究課題の今後の方向性を決定するうえで重要であったと思われる。
