Artifacts in approximate solutions of nonlinear dynamical systems

The investigation of nonlinear processes is a key issue in natural sciences and engineering especially in mechanical systems. There are numerous phenomena in vibrations that can only be explained by a nonlinear modeling.A number of analytical procedures like Harmonic Balance exist for the solution of such problems. However, these methods may produce artifact solutions. Based on prior work of the applicants these artifacts in analytical approximate solutions shall be identified for a number of nonlinear systems.
