Staff networks in the Papal environment in the ninth century

The research grants applied for will serve to create a database in which – for the first time – all persons who served the Popes in office during the course of the ninth century will be listed. This open access online database will provide all available information about these persons in a structured and easily accessible manner. The information will include the dates of birth and death, the place of origin and residence, information about titles, offices or positions held and the cooperation between different persons. This database will thus be the foundation of a prosopographical reference book. Both tools – the database and the reference book – will enable new kinds of network-based research on the early medieval papacy.
