Video urodynamics displaying simultaneous urodynamic data with images of lower urinary tract gives more precise information about lower urinary tract function. This method was described originally as a combined radiographic and urodynamic monitoring.We describe certain modifications of original method, using ultrasound method instead of the radiographic method as an imaging modality. Ultrasound study of the bladder and urethra was performed using transrectal linear scanning or transabdominal sector scanning. Urodynamic examination was performed on a polygraph system ( Nihon-Kohden, RM-6000 ), capable of simultaneously recording bladder pressure, rectal pressure, detrusor pressure, urine flow rate and external sphincter EMG.All urodynamic data were projected in color on the color display monitor ( Nihon-Koden, VD-610G ) through the polygraph system and the display controller ( Nihon-Koden, VY-600G ). The display controller makes the television camera, which was mandatory for viewing the urodynamic data in the previous method, unnecessary and urodynamic data are shown in color. The ultrasound images are projected via the digital scan converter ( Edic, ED-1280A ) and the display controller, and are superimposed over the sweeping urodynamic data on the color display monitor.Our video urodynamic system is considered to have certain distinct advanteges in that this procedure can be easily performed without using the television camera.
