Driven by environmental laws and the goal of a production without health and environmental risks, light metal foundries are using more and more inorganically bonded sand cores. In contrast to organically bonded cores, they emit considerably less harmful gasses. One disadvantage of inorganically bonded cores is the more complex and straining decoring process. For this reason the proposed project is aiming at the development of a computational method to predict the core fracture during the decoring process. This allows to optimize the decoring process, resulting in reduced strain on the cast component. In order to achieve this, measuring methods for all necessary material properties are being developed. For validation, the aluminium sand composite of the raw casting component is strained with pulses, both in experiment and in simulation.
