知的障害者も健常者と同様にフレイル状態があり、フレイルの予防や改善することは知的障害者の健康寿命の延伸につながる。フレイルの予防には口腔の健康維持が重要であり、知的障害者においても同様であると考えている。しかし、知的障害者のフレイルと口腔との関連についての報告は我々の知りうる限り見られない。令和4年度に知的障害者施設への実態調査を予定していたが、新型コロナウイルスの全国的な蔓延のため施設長より調査の実施許可がおりなかったため、実施していたアンケートの分析を行った。20歳以上の知的障害者を対象としてアンケート調査を実施した。基本情報として、年齢、性別、障がいの診断名、療育手帳の等級、主な生活場所について尋ねた。口腔の情報として、現在歯数、口腔の健康行動に関する質問として、かかりつけ歯科医の有無、定期歯科受診への受診の有無、1日の歯磨き回数について尋ねた。定期歯科受診の有無を目的変数、年齢、性別、障害の重症度、障害の種類、主な生活場所、かかりつけ歯科医の有無、歯科衛生士の在籍状況を説明変数とした多項ロジスティック回帰分析を行った。その結果、20歳以上の知的障害者の定期歯科受診は、障害の種類、障害の重症度、かかりつけ歯科医の有無が関連した。知的障害が重度の者に比べて軽度の者は、有意に定期歯科受診していなかった。重度知的障害者だけでは無く、軽度の者にも口腔の健康について注意を払う必要性が示された。上記の結果を現在、知的障害者の国際雑誌（JIDR)に投稿予定である。
