天川村では文化財一覧を作成する等、村内の文化財の把握には努めている。一方で、Webで検索すると「キャンプ」が上位に来るほど、キャンプ場・バーベキュー場が乱立している。大きな資本ではなく、村外の小資本による開発のため、統一性はなく景観を著しく損ねる結果となっているものの、COVID-19による観光客激減への対策として受け入れてきた経緯がある。天川村の文化の基底を形づくるものは、村の面積の98％を占める山岳にある。修験道は日本独自に発展した仏教であり、その聖地大峰を頂く天川村は修験道と共に発展してきた。文化財を護るということは、財を価値づけている文化そのものが持続されなければ、最終的には文化財の意味が理解されない、或いは、伝えられない社会へと変質していくが、天川村においてもその傾向は顕在化し始めている。修験道関係者の宿泊地として栄えてきた洞川地区は、以前は「大峰洞川」という地名であったが、現在は一般観光客に向け「洞川温泉」と改称している。そこで、この問題の解決のために村内で活動している方々にヒアリングを実施し、また、現地調査を行い、天川村の社会課題（構造的少子化／地産地消の欠如／線形型経済構造／人材不足／情報不足／郷土教育の欠落／自然環境の破壊／災害復興の遅れ／空き家の増加／住民の無関心、等）を抽出した。さらに、天川村立小中学校に設置を企図していた郷土室について、デジタル上に置く方法を見出すことができた。ヒアリングおよび調査を実施先は、以下の通りである。村内：天川村教育委員会・教育委員長大西氏／一般社団法人天川村フォレストパワー協議会・代表豕瀬氏／一般社団法人天河斎庭・代表井頭氏、植樹祭村外：吉野郡殿川地区（元地域おこし協力隊吉村氏）／大阪国際大学（早川准教授）／カタルーニャ公開大学（林田講師）／神奈川県相模原市緑区青根地区（あざおね社中／麻布大学・村山准教授）
