项目摘要

本研究課題は、「ニューヨーク派」のアニメーション・スタイルと制作様式について明らかにすることを目的としている。初年度である令和4年度においては、本課題の最初の段階として、既存のスタジオ研究書や歴史書の収集・整理、またニューヨークのスタジオが1930年代から40年代に制作した映像を収録したソフトの収集を中心に行った。入手した既存のスタジオ研究書を精読することで、ニューヨークの一部のスタジオにおける制作工程やその傾向、制作の予算や規模、所属していた人員を整理した。これに加え、複数の歴史書から、ニューヨークのスタジオに一時期でも所属していた個々のアニメーターやスタッフを整理し、各人のスタジオ移籍の遍歴をデータベース化する作業を進めた。本研究課題は、スタジオという総体よりも、個別のスタッフのスタジオ横断的な仕事に注目することで、個別の制作者の創造とスタジオの制作様式との間の折衝を検討し、「ニューヨーク派」のスタイルを明らかにすることを含むため、この作業が進められた異議は大きい。制作工程に直接かかわる人員の数は非常に多いため、研究課題の遂行上重要と考えられる者を抽出することに努めたが、この作業は今後も継続される予定である。入手した映像ソフトに関しては、整理を行ったものの、文字資料整理が先行したため、映像の具体的な分析に関しては十分に着手できず、活用しきれてていない。二年目にあたる令和5年度以降、集中的に映像分析を行う予定である。
