项目摘要

本研究は、新型コロナウィルス感染拡大が「移民労働者とその家族構成員」に及ぼしている影響に着目している。そのため、研究代表者が1997年から2012年まで、12回に及んで現地調査を継続してきたバングラデシュ出身者を中心に据えながら、彼女・彼らがイスラームを拠り所として移住先で関係を構築しているインド、パキスタン出身者からも聞き取り調査を実施する。移住先（受入国）としての調査対象地域は、グローバルな展開を見せる多国籍企業と金融機関の一大拠点であり、これら周辺領域に関わる労働需要が移民を集中させるグローバル都市（Sassen）として関心を集めてきたニューヨーク市を選定している。また、送出国での現状をより明らかにすることを目的として、主としてバングラデシュでの現地調査を予定している。まず、上記の研究概要と目的、助成期間、配分予定額、調査担当領域等について、各研究者との確認を行った。ニューヨーク市での現地調査を担当するダッフィル、佐藤とは、新型コロナウィルス蔓延以降の状況、治安、今後の調査方法に関する打合せをそれぞれ複数回実施している。また、拙著（Suzuki, 2022）の分析に加えて、専門的な助言を受けている。バングラデシュでの現地調査を担当する鈴木(亜）とは、本研究での役割、バングラデシュでの調査日程（日数を含む）について、電子メール及び電話での確認を密に行った。鈴木は、別途採択された助成金（研究スタート支援）に基づき、夏季休暇中に現地調査（24 泊 25日）を実施して当該研究にも備えている。ニューヨーク市在住のアリ・シャイド（ロングアイランド大学、教授）と連携して情報や資料を収集している。さらに、ジェームズ・マンディバーグ（ニューヨーク市立大学ハンター校、准教授）を講師として研究会「A Study of Structural Inequality in the USA and New York City」（対面）を開催しているが、ダッフィルと佐藤が参加した。

This study focuses on the impact of new types of infection on migrant workers and family members.
