项目摘要

研究課題を開始した二〇二二年度については、当初の研究計画にも記載していた通り島崎藤村の長篇小説・「夜明け前」（一九二九-三五）の調査・分析に充てた。これによって、結果的にテクストを二つの方向から検討することが出来た。（一）従来は同時代のマルクス主義者たちが関わった日本資本主義論争との関係から解釈されることが多かった「夜明け前」における経済史観を、藤村の林政史に関わる蔵書への書き込みや折り込みなどから再検討し、尾張藩（尾張徳川家）への肯定的な評価と連関する自由経済への志向を看取し得た。この成果としては、「夜明け前」における経世済民観徳川時代の林政史評価を補助線として」と題して島崎藤村学会で報告を行った。（二）（一）と関連して階級的観点からプチブルジョワ的な存在として評価されてきた「夜明け前」の主人公およびその一家を、近年の歴史学における近世-近代の過渡期における自治体研究などの知見を踏まえつつ、行政的な〈代理人〉として読み直す理路を見出し得た。この成果としては、「『夜明け前』を読む挫折する国学徒／無能な〈代理人〉としての青山半蔵」と題して長野県小諸市で講演会を行った。「夜明け前」は一九二〇-三〇年代における幕末-明治維新期をテーマとしたテクストのなかでも非常に反響が大きいことから、これについて評価軸が作れたことによって、今後の同時代の諸テクストを分析していくにあたり有効な見取り図を得られた。
