本研究は、日本語、中国語、タイ語を取り上げ、各言語の書体間の類似度との関係を明らかにし、それぞれの言語の書体の形態属性を計測可能な方法で探り，類似度に影響を与える形態属性を解明することが目的とした。各言語の書体間の類似度評価実験が、１）印象評価軸の取得と候補書体を絞るための言語ごとの類似度評価実験，２）日本語―中国語、日本語―タイ語、言語間の類似度評価実験の２段階から構成される。2022年度は、中国語と日本語それぞれの書体の類似度調査実験を中心に実施した。１）中国語書体の類似度評価実験まず、中国語の類似度評価実験の実験刺激となる字形、評価用書体を選定するための予備実験を行った。実験方法として、カード法を用い、被験者に書体刺激カードを類似度に応じて、２次元の配置シートに配置させる。配置する際の評価軸を自由に設定してもらい、得られた書体カード同士の距離を類似度とし，それに基づいて書体をグルーピングし、印象軸を抽出する。予備実験では、中国語の母国語話者合計20名を被験者とし、計２回の予備実験を行い、最終的に実験刺激とする12文字を確認できた。次に、上記の結果を踏まえ、中国語の母国語話者合計43名を被験者とし、予備実験と同様な方法で本実験を行い、得られた配置データを分析した結果、計40書体を外観の類似度に応じて11クラスタに分類し、合計18の印象評価軸を抽出した。この結果は、次の段階で行う中国語と日本語の両言語間の類似度評価実験の刺激書体と評価軸の参考となる。２）日本語書体の類似度評価実験上述した中国語の類似度評価実験と同様な実験方法を用いて日本語書体の類似度評価実験を行い、分析する。現段階は、評価用書体を選定するための予備実験を行っている。
