项目摘要

本研究の趣旨は近世日本社会における「主婦・主婦権」について、これまで利用されてこなかった新たな史料(女性自身の手によって書かれた「金銭出納帳」・手紙、他)を発掘し、その翻刻に基づいて、文献史学の立場から実証していこうとするものである。主婦・主婦権考察の基盤には、柳田國男の示す食事・炉・衣類・奉公人・祭祀、に関わる権限」を持つ「家長に並ぶただ一人の人」という概念を据えている。実証的研究にあたり、史料を翻刻し、手紙の場合は編年にして、自力パソコン入力したものを印刷所に持ち込み、私家版史料集としてまとめるという方法を採ってきた。本研究期間には、先般より蒐集・翻刻・編年を進めてきた平田篤胤後妻織瀬の秋田からの手紙(天保12～13年/国立歴史民俗博物館所蔵)の84通について、家や社会構造をふまえた解題を付した史料集『平田篤胤後妻織瀬の秋田からの手紙』(史料校訂宮地正人、翻刻・編年・著横由鈴子)の刊行(私家版)を行った。翻刻した各史料には年代日付確定の根拠を示し、手紙内容の信憑性の裏付けとして人物および関連事項を注記した。近世の女性自身の書いた残存史料の少ない中で、本史料は量的にも質的にも優れて貴重なものであるため、本研究テーマ「近世の主婦・主婦権についての実証的研究」の具体的深化のみならず、平田篤胤の秋田受け入れに関する当時の事情を読み込める点でも重要である。補助金は申請通り、現地調査交通費・宿泊費補助、出版費用全額、校訂者への謝礼、通信費の順にあてた。史料集は3月印刷完了、女性史研究・平田国学研究に携わる方々及び諸機関に無料配布を予定している。尚、史料翻刻を研究遂行者自身がパソコン入力するという手法は、史料集出版の重要性を認識しつつも、通常4度は校正するなどの高コストから敬遠される状況を緩和する意味でも重要な試みであり、データ・ベース公開の可能性も含め重要な試みであると考える。
