地方文書の調査のために、新潟県を訪問した。現在の新潟県柏崎市に在住し、私塾三餘堂を開いて近隣の子どもたちを教育していた人物である藍澤南城(万延元年没、享年69歳。字子敬。)は、片山兼山に学び、『論語私説』『孟子考』など数十巻の著述を残している。今回の調査では、県立図書館に所蔵され、県の指定文化財となっているこれらの書物を写真撮影した。撮影したフィルムはデジタルデータとして逐一コンピュータに取り込んでおり、現在順次解析を行っているところである。従来、彼の著述は、儒学テキストへの注釈をどのように行っているかといった観点から研究されてきているが、『補漏』という覚書または抜き書きの書物その他によって、その思想的裏付けや背景および軌跡を、彼の生活との関係を含めてより緻密にたどることができると期待される。また、現在のところ教育関係の実態を示す直接的な資料は見当たらないが、南城の周辺の資料を動員して、彼の儒学著作物に結実していく思想が、どのように子弟に受け継がれていったのか、という観点からの解明を進めたいと考えている。
