1. 本州で神子柴・長者久保石器群や縄文時代草創期石器群が展開していた時期に北海道では細石刃石器群が継続していた。本研究では本州と北海道の該期の石器群の比較を試みた。2. 旧石器時代終末期において、北海道内に地域性が認められる。道東には広郷型細石刃核を主体とする石器群が広く分布し、これは置戸産黒曜石の大形石刃を素材としている。大形の有舌尖頭器・白滝型細石刃核を伴う場合もある。石器の素材の補給体制と細石刃石核の型式は深く関連している。3. 一方、道南では、広郷型細石刃核は少なく、有舌尖頭器や忍路子型細石刃核を主体とする石器群が展開している。これらは主として硬質頁岩を原材とする。また大関遺跡のような長者久保型の大形尖頭器を主体とする石器群は本州の該期石器群の影響を色濃く受けており、北海道独自の細石刃石器群との共時的な関係が予想される。つまり示準石器の変遷を想定した単純な編年観は成立しない。4. 道央部には道東・道南両地域の様相が認められるが、石材原産地から遠いことが石器群に大きく影響している。旭川市射的山遺跡、千歳市オサツ18遺跡に見られるように広郷型細石刃核がリダクションで変形しているのは、消費地遺跡の典型例である。細石刃石核の形態が原産地からの距離によって変化することを示しており、単純な形態的比較が困難であり、編年的な枠組の作成を困難にしている。また三角山上層遺跡のように大平山元タイプの刃部磨製石斧を共伴する例もある。5. 北海道における旧石器時代終末期の石器群は本州の神子柴・長者久保文化の影響を受けながら、独自性を堅持している。石材の消費・供給システムが保有する細石刃石核の型式を規制しており、基本的には均一の装備を保有する本州の縄文時代草創期とは異なる。北海道では該期の本州とは違った「地域遊動型の狩猟採集社会」の社会編成を読みとることができる。
