昨年度に補助金の援助により作成したハワイ語例文データべース、ハワイ語単語データベースを用いて以下の二つのことを行いました。1 より効果的なハワイ語辞書の様式の考案に際して、従来の辞書に含まれていた見出し語、品詞分類、語義、例文、イディオム等の辞書情報に加えてどのような情報を盛り込むべきか、ハワイ語例文データベースのデータの分析、及び他の諸言語の辞書の様式の吟味に基づいて検討しました。その成果に基づいて試行を重ねた結果、機能語を除く単語(名詞、動詞、状態動詞等の内容語)の用法は述語用法、名詞用法、名詞修飾用法、動詞修飾用法の4つの用法に大別でき、辞書を編纂する際にはこれらの用法の区別を小見出しとして分類するのが効果的であること、また、それぞれの用法が様々な構文で用いられることがあり、そのような構文の図式的な表示も辞書には必須であるとの結論に至りました。このようにして得られた新しい辞書の様式は従来のハワイ語辞書の不備を補ってより完全な記述へ一歩近づいたものと言えます。2 より大きなハワイ語辞書への土台とするための基礎語彙集を作成しました。(1)ハワイ語例文データベースに基づき頻度数の高い単語を選抜したものに、他の言語の基礎語彙集等を参考に日常会話場面で有用と思われる単語を補い、合計約1200項目の基礎語彙を設定しました。(2)それぞれの語彙項目について、昨年作成したデータベースを活用して上記の1で考案した辞書の様式に従って情報を整理し、データベース上に基礎語彙集を作成しました(3)関係研究機関に配布しレビューを受けるために、補助金によりハワイ語語彙集として印刷し、また、補助金により購入したCD-ROMライターにより同内容のものをCD-ROM化し、コンピューターによる閲覧も可能にしました。尚、今回の研究成果の一部は近日出版予定のハワイ語文法書の巻末語彙集としても公表する予定です。
