本研究では,ソシオメトリーの技法と行動観察の技法を組み合わせることで,知的障害者更生施設における集団構造の定量化を可能にするシステムの構築を行った。研究協力施設において対人行動の種類と相手を記録し,ソシオメトリーの集計法を用いて集計を行った。そのために必要な,集計プログラムを作成し,運用を行った。入所者個人の地位の高低を表す指数,集団全体の親和度・結合度を表す指数,下位集団(いわゆる「仲良し集団」)の構成,孤立している者の構成などを集計した。集計された各指標は,指導員が持っている入所者の対人関係についての認知や集団構造についての認知とよく一致していた。この技法を用いて,長期間にわたり,施設内の人間関係の様態の時間的推移について検討を行った。その結果,入所者個人の施設内での地位,集団の親和性・結合性,下位集団の構成などの集団構造は,比較的安定していたものの,対人関係が活発になる時期(季節・行事等)には,肯定的な対人関係と否定的な対人関係の両方が活性化していることが明らかとなった。さらに,他の要因との関連性について検討を行ったところ,入所者個人の地位や下位集団への所属の有無と知的障害の程度やあわせもつ障害の種類とは明らかな関連は見られなかった。このことは入所者個人の対人行動の特性が重要であることを示唆していると思われた。また,性差においては,女性入所者のほうが全体として地位が低く,経時的に安定していないことが明らかとなった。このことは,女性入所者は対人行動が肯定的と否定的の両側面において活発であり,それが時期によって安定していないことを示唆していた。
