项目摘要

近年青少年による凶悪な犯罪や自殺が目立っており、社会問題と化している。そこには、死のリアリティー、いのちの重みが感じられない。混乱した教育現場からは切実な死(死を内包したいのち)の教育への声があがっている。しかしながら、現場は授業や生活指導など日々の仕事に忙殺され対処法すら見つけられず、まして深い知見にたった長期的展望のもと、死の教育をどのように進めていくかを案出することができていない。このような教育状況を考えれば死の教育を哲学的、原理的に問うのみならず、臨床的に問う作業が是非とも必要である。以上のような問題意識から本研究は、人間が築き上げてきた膨大な文化財産としての、人間の死をめぐる、哲学思想、宗教(学)、文学、教育学の成果を駆使しつつ、それらを今日の教育の中に目に見えるような形で生かしそのことを通して、子どもが、死とは何かをめぐる思索を深めることにより、生命への慈しみ、畏敬の念を深める手立てを、机上の議論で終わることなく、臨床的に構築することを目的とした。今年度は昨年に引き続きさまざまな学問分野の死を巡る議論を紐解くことにより、現在の教育にそれらを生かすことを模索した。特に今年度は、宗教と教育、文学と教育の観点から問題点を明らかにすることを試みた。宗教教育に関しては公教育の場で行われないものの、現在その是非がとりざたされている。宗教性の教育の人間形成上の意味と、それらを教育現場にどのように取り入れるか、教育経験者を交えた研究会で討議を重ねた。また、文学の観点からは、単なる教材として文学作品を読み解くだけでなく、自己の言葉で自らを語り出すことの重要性について検討した。今日の言葉の貧困さは、単なる言葉の問題のみならず、自己を表現する手立ての乏しさ、すなわち自己の人生を生きる「生の在り方」の乏しさに通じている。現教育においてこの点をふまえた指導の重要性についても指摘した。
