本年度の研究は、前年度(平成11年度)の研究を継続させて「総合的な学習」の教材としてのデザイン・工作工芸教育の可能性を考察し、教材試案を作成することであった。まず、デザイン・工作工芸の教材構造と、新学習指導要領のカリキュラムとしての特徴を分析し、教材化のための観点と学習課程・指導過程の在り方を考察した。デザイン・工作工芸の活動を「ものづくり」の活動とし、その工程と問題解決学習の過程を照合して、ものづくりに含まれる機能充足、技術習得、計画性などの特徴を抽出できた。次に、総合的な学習における教師の指導性の問題を取り上げ、ものづくりの過程における教師の指導と単元構成の方法論について考察した。児童の主体的な造形表現を保障しながら、制作工程や学習内容を明瞭に把握させる指導の在り方を、制作工程における素材、技術、行為などの側面からとらえて単元を構成する手順を示すことができた。多様な児童への対応を想定して、小学校の特殊学級において実験授業を行い、有効性を確認できた。また、現場教師の教材開発・造形指導の方法論を分析するために、小学校教諭の協力を得て複数の実験授業を行い、児童の実態に即した指導方法の修正・改善を行うことができた。これらをふまえ、総合的な学習のためのデザイン・工作工芸教材の試案を作成した。素材体験の性格を与えた短期的な教材案と、生活と「もの」との関係を学習しながら、求められる機能や条件を充足させる問題解決学習の性格を与えた中・長期的な教材案を作成した。これらは、具体的な操作から形式的な操作へと移行する発達段階に対応させた。生活環境から「もの」や「ものづくり」を考え、具体的な調査活動や作品の検証を通してすすめる制作活動は、体験的な学習を重視する「総合的な学習の時間」の教材として有効であり、環境教育や、バリアフリーなどの福祉教育への発展性があることを確認することができた。
