平成10年度の研究では、平成9年度の継続として、小学校における表現教育のための情報機器の活用について研究を進めた。デジタルカメラ等の簡易な画像入力と、コンピュータによる画像処理によって、視覚的対象物のイメージを拡大させる造形表現の教材・授業事例を分析した。その結果は、「小学校における表現と鑑賞のための情報機器の活用(1)」(北海道教育大学紀要第49巻第1号、1998、pp.191-205)として発表した。これによって、コンピュータ等の情報環境の基本機能をデータベース機能とし、情報の入力・加工・出力の支援機能をいかした表現教育への可能性を提示できた。また、児童の主体的な表現活動と情報社会・地域社会との関わりを考察し、「地域へのまなざしを促す表現教育としての美術-視覚的環境の変化と子どもの生活から」(『子どもと地域』、東京書籍、1999)として発表した。これによって、自己の表現活動と実生活への関わりを結びつける表現教育の在り方を提言した。様々な表現媒体による表現活動の具体的なプログラムに関しては、横浜美術館子どものアトリエ(横浜)、子どもの城(東京)の取材及び文献資料を通して示唆を得た。小学校の各教科に内在する表現学習・表現活動の内容については、教科書からの抽出結果を整理した。その結果、表現活動を内在させた学習の機会の広範さ、多様さを確認できた。多様な表現媒体、学習形態に即した情報教育への適用の可能性を考察し、「初等教育における表現教育と情報教育の総合的学習形態について」として研究成果報告書に記載した。抽出データについては、各教科書別に一覧とし、研究成果報告書に資料として記載した。また、シンガポールの情報教育については、中等教育の情報教育用図書を入手し、今後の情報教育・表現教育のモデルとして示唆を得た。この情報教育用図書の内容構成については、研究成果報告書に記載した。
