平成13年度の研究成果は以下の通りである。1 一次史料の収集:前年度に引き続き、『易経』関連の注釈書を収集した。特に日本において近現代にまで影響を与えた『易経』解釈として、真勢中州、藤村與六の著作が非常に重要であるという点に着目するに至った。2 江戸時代後期から明治初期にかけての経世論における一類型:明治期の経済思想と江戸時代の経世論を連続的に捉えるためには、功利主義思想の受容という問題視角と、両者に共通する知的基盤としての中国古典の重要性を強調すべきである、という結論を得るに至った。そして具体的な素材として田口卯吉と海保青陵を取りあげ、成果を公表するための準備作業中である。3 石門心学と「三教一致」論:当初は江戸時代の町人思想の一つとして取りあげたに過ぎなかったが、日中儒学史の比較という大きな問題に発展しうる題材であることに気づいた。前近代の日本社会に大きな影響を与えた朱子学は、古典的儒教が道教、仏教という異思想の影響を受けつつ、それらと格闘することで成立した思想である。明代以降になると儒者であっても道教や仏教に接近する者も多く出現している。そのため中国儒学研究においては道教、仏教との連関性が常に意識されていたのに対し、日本の儒学史研究においてはこのような視点が欠けていたことを改めて認識した。そして石門心学は、いわば中国における王学右派の立場に相当する思想ではないか、という仮説を立てるに至った。この問題については新たな研究課題として継続する予定である。
