1近世後期日本における市場社会の諸相を探るべく、活字化されていない史料収集に努めた。その対象として、町人向けの教訓書と、知識人の経世論という二つの相異なる分野の史料を収集した。前者については著者を特定せず、幅広く収集することが重要であったが、主に東京大学総合図書館所蔵の南葵文庫に依拠することになった。後者についても、経世論の類型化を行うためにはできるだけ多くの史料を集める必要があるのだが、知識人の著作という性格上、人物を特定することが可能であるため、さしあたり類型化の手がかりを与えてくれそうな仁井田好古の著作を中心に収集した。その際、東京大学図書館、大阪府立中之島図書館においては史料の保存に力が尽くされ、しかも研究者に対する便宜が最大限はかられる体勢であったことから、複写にまつわる支出が予想外に低く抑えられ、資金を有効に利用することができた。2以上の史料収集をおこなうと同時に、その分析枠組みを作るための基礎作業を行った。設備備品として購入したパソコンを用いて、まず朱熹の著作の一部を入力した。これは当事の社会においては儒学が知識人、民衆に共有された教養であったためである。入力作業に際しては備品と附属のスキャナ、読み取りソフトが威力を発揮した。また上記1で収集した史料についても入力を開始したが、写本類が中心であるため、読み取りと入力がすべて手作業となり、難航している。なお、史料の収集、入力の両面において、作業を続行する必要があるため、次年度以降の研究を継続したいと考えている。
