项目摘要

平成13年度における調査(マイクロフィルムEarly English 1475-1640;枢密院議事録Acts of Privy Co uncil in England 1542-1631など)を通じて、ルネサンス期イングランドの宮廷文化に関する以下の事柄が明らかとなった。16世紀から17世紀にかけてのイングランドの宮廷社会においては、当時の人文主義者による一連の「作法書(courtesy book)」の受容と出版を通じて、枢密顧問官をはじめとする統治エリート(ジェントルマン)の行為規範が形成された。国王が主宰するルネサンス期の宮廷は同時代ヨーロッパにおける政治的中心であり、各国の大使・使節をはじめ、「異質」な「他者」が相互に対面する場であった。したがって、宮廷社会においては<courtesy>,<civility>,<manners>,<conversation>など「他者」との「共存」を可能にするための「言語」と「意識」が持続的に再生産された。このような「洗練された交際(civil conversation)」は政治生活にも不可欠であり、とくに宮廷の枢密院において重要視された。同時代の枢密院はまさに顧問官が国王に対して「役割演技」を遂行し、情況に適応しつつ「他者」として「助言」する場であった。このような「作法」は実際に、Francis BaconやThomas Wilsonをはじめ、エリザベス期およびジェイムズ1世期における枢密顧問官の行為規範として強く意識されていたのである。なお、以上の研究の途中結果は、平成13年3月の思想史研究会(於九州大学)で公開報告された。また、筆者は現在、以上のような「宮廷」研究を継続・発展させ、時代を拡げて17・18世紀における「作法書」の分析作業を遂行している。この成果は平成14年10月発行予定の『法政研究』第69巻において公表し、併せて同月の政治学会において報告する予定である。

A survey conducted in the 13th year of Heisei (Early English 1475-1640; Acts of Privy Council in England 1542-1631) revealed the following events concerning the culture of the imperial court. From the 16th century to the 17th century, a series of courtesy book were accepted and published by the humanists of that time, and the code of conduct of the Privy Council was formed. The king's ruling court is the center of politics, the ambassadors of various countries, and the "heterogeneous" and "others" are facing each other. In the court society<courtesy><civility>, <manners>the "other" and the "coexistence" may be reproduced in the <conversation>"speech" and "consciousness". This is a "civil conversation" that is important in political life and in the Privy Council of the Imperial Court. At the same time, the Privy Council advised the king to act as a servant, and the situation was appropriate to the "other" and the "assistant". Francis Bacon and Thomas Wilson are the first generation of Privy Councillors to adopt the Code of Conduct. The results of the above research were published in March 2013 at the Institute of Ideological History (Kyushu University). The author carried out the analysis of the "Law Book" from the 17th to the 18th century on the basis of the research on the present and the above-mentioned "imperial court" The results were published in October 2014 in the "Legal Studies" section of the 69th report, and in the same month in the "Political Studies" section of the report.
