保型L函数と表現論との関係を中心に研究を進めた。吉田は、志村多様体のゼータ函数を研究し、ゼータ函数を表わす、 ラングランズの公式は、全てのオイラー因子についても成立つこと、 特殊値と周期についての志村の予想の一部を解沢するなどの成果を挙げた。さらに、保型L函数の零点についての数値実験を相当に広い範囲において行った。池田は、アイゼンスタイン級数とテータ級数の間の関の関係を与えるジーゲル公式を、テータ級数部分の積分が絶対収束でない場合にまで拡張した。この研究は未だ完全に一般的にはなっておらず、なお徹底した研究を要するが、非常に重要な結果であると考える。土方は、バス環についての精密な研究を行った。これは表現の指標の具体的な形、跡公式などに応用のある興味ある結果である。梅田は、量子群についての研究を進め、古典群について重要な応用のあったカペリの等式を量子群の場合に拡張すること、量子群の“行列式"についての新しい等式を見出すなどの結果を得た。平井は、非コンパクト多様体の微分同相写像のなす群の表現論の研究を行った。野村はジョルダン環かつヒルベルト空間であるものから、 対称空間の類似物であるヒルベルト多様体を得、その上の球函数、測地線などの微分幾可学的研究を行った。これらは、従来の表現論のわく組から一歩踏み出した研究である。
