本研究は既に助成金の交付を受けた二つの分野、「狐物語」の語学的研究並びに文献学的研究に続くもので、これ等の三研究を総合する事によって「狐物」に関する全体的研究を完成させる事を目標としている。今回の申請により認められた助成金の交付期間は残念なことに平成五年度のみの単年度であったため、当初研究計画調書に記載した文学的研究に関する全テーマを完了するまでには至らなかったものの、部分的にはかなりの収穫を挙げる事が出来た。研究計画、方法に関しても調書に記した平成五年度、六年度の一部を集中的に取り上げ、そのうちのいくつかのテーマは既に内外へ学会機関誌を通じてその成果を発表する事が出来た。なかでも、学会へ論争点となった諸問題の整理と再検討については、永らくこの問題に関心を寄せているグラスゴー大学ヴァーティー教授との資料及び意見の交換を通じて大きな前進を遂げている。更に平成六年度計画に揚げた、独創的見解を加えての新解釈が可能と思われるテーマについての研究に関しては、先ず最初に第八枝篇の場合に着手し、二度の口頭発表を経た後、日本フランス語・フランス文学会機関誌上に研究発表を行なっている。次に特にここで報告しておきたいのは、本研究の副次的産物として「狐物語」の日本語訳が近々上梓されるに至った事である。(三月入稿、年内刊行予定、白水社)これは直接中世写本より翻訳された本邦最初の訳本となるものである。文学的研究に含まれる他の問題の解決には少く共更に数ヶ年を要するものと考えられるので、近い将来に再び助成金の交付を得て、当初の目標である日本人研究者の手に成るフランス中世文学の代表作「狐物語」の総合研究の実現に努力したいものである。
