The following( <I> )-( <IV> ) galvanic cells were constracted and equilibrium EMF were measured.( <alpha> + <beta> )- <Al_2O_3> in air / <Na^+> - <beta> - <Al_2O_3> / <Na_2SO_4> / <SO_2> + <SO_3> +air ・・・・( <I> ),Ag/ <Ag^+> - <beta> - <Al_2O_3> / <Ag_2SO_4> / <SO_2> + <SO_3> +air・・・・( <II> )Na/ <Na^+> - <beta> "- <Al_2O_3> / <Na_2S> +Ag+ <Ag_2S> ・・・・・・( <III> ),Pb/ <Pb^(2+)> - <beta> "- <Al_2O_3> /PbS+ <Ag_2> S+Ag ・・・・( <IV> ) From the EMF measurements of cells ( <I> ) and ( <II> ), it was found the contents of <SO_2> in air were estimated from the EMF values and the thin films of <Na_2SO_4> and <Ag_2SO_4> on the surfaces of <beta> - <Al_2O_3> solid electrolytes were easily produced from the reaction to the sample gas containing <SO_2> and <SO_3> .From the cells ( <III> ) and ( <IV> ), the sulpher potentials in right sample electrodes were measured from EMF values and these values were good agreements with the calculated ones based on reliable thermodynamic values. In order to investigate the stability of <beta> and <beta> "- <Al_2O_3> , the activities of <Na_2O> solid AgI and <Ag_2S> and beta-alumina were investigated by means of EMF measurements and coulometric titration method of the following ( <V> ) and ( <VI> ) cells.
