平成5年より刊行開始の『新日本古典文学大係 源氏物語』(岩波書店)では、これまで別本とされていた本文が一部に採用された。本研究の目的である、別本をはじめとする古写本の画像データを蓄積し、知りたい文字を短時間に検索・表示するシステムの構築は、従来の諸本分類の規準の見直しに、直効なものとなるのである。本年度は、『源氏物語別本集成 第6巻』(伊井春樹・小林茂美・伊藤鉄也共編、桜楓社)のための資料整理を通して、問題となる諸写本の画像データを採集していった。ここで集まった筆跡データは、今後ともコンピュータを利用した諸本研究に活用されることであろう。なお、鎌倉時代から室町時代にかけてのさまざまな古筆資料の文字のパターンを蓄積していく過程で、手書き文字の自動読み取りが可能となった。古写本の変体仮名の部分に関して、今回は藤原定家の筆跡を、コンピュータとイメージスキャナの利用によって自動認識できたのである。認識率は90%以上である。今後とも、さまざまな字体へのチャレンジをしていきたい。また、本年度は画像データを自由に表示できるデータベースソフトウェアも開発できた。今回開発した〈プロムナード・XL〉と名付けたソフトウェアを使用すれば、手軽にパーソナルな環境で諸写本の画像データを検索して表示・確認できるのである。今後の研究環境の手助けとなる〈小道具〉となるはずである。平成5年度の継続研究では、〈MS-DOS〉マシンだけでなく、〈マックOS〉の環境でも利用可能なものにしたい。さらに、大量の画像データを蓄積するためにも、ビデオカメラを活用した作業を導入する予定である。本研究で作成されていく、本文の実体を踏まえた詳細な情報や資料は、源氏物語別本諸本の位相を探究するためばかりではなく、他の作品や人文系の分野にも重要な情報となって活用されていくことであろう。
