本研究の課題は宋代思想史を再構築するための基礎的作業として、(1)道学・陸学以外の諸思想の究明・分析、(2)南宋における道学の実態の究明・分析、(3)道学を批判する立場にあった思想家の究明・分析、(4)道学ならびに他の諸思想と政治との関わりの究明・分析、という四つの視点から、宋代思想史の基礎的研究を行い、宋代史における道学の位置を相対化せしめ、あわせて元・明・清への展望を得ようとするものであった。このような課題に関しては米国での研究成果に学ぶべき点が多くあり、このため本年度にあってはドクトラル・ディザテーションをはじめとして米国での関係著作のかなりの部分を購入し、あわせて日本・中国での関係著作、そして工具書類も購入することができた。冊数にするとかなりの量となり、現在これら著作等を読解・分析している段階である。また東京・関西の関係専門図書館での図書閲覧も果たすことができた。以上ような具合で、現段階では研究成果をすぐに発表することはできかねるが、来年度以降、上記視点から本研究課題を深化・発展せしめ、特に道学を批判する側にあった人々の思想・政治的立場等を究明・分析することにしたい。またこのような研究課題から派生するいくつかの問題ある。たとえば宋・元交替期における道学の在り方、明代以降にも時としてあらわれる反道学の動きであり、これらも分析対象となる。一方、江戸時代の日本にあっても日本独自の道学批判の論理があり、これらの動向は中国での問題点を考える糸口になるかもしれないので、日本の思想史についても考慮することにしたい。
