本年度は主に日本に現存する中国鐘の調査ならびに銘文読解をおこなった。知見の限りでは、日本には二六個の中国鐘が存在し(尚、内一個は現在のところ所蔵者がかわり行方不明)、それらは北九州4、広島・鳥取各1、大阪4、京都・奈良5、愛知周辺7、東京3という具合であるが、東京と外のものすべてを熟観し、それらの多くについて採拓・撮影・計測をおこない、かつそれらの将来の由来などもかなり調査しえた。現在、それら資料にもとづいて銘文の読解をおこなっている。当初の予測では、第二次大戦中に将来されたものがおおいと思われたのだが、むしろ日清戦争時に将来されたものが多いようである。今後は計測資料をパソコンで解析し、梵鐘の形態を作図すること、銘文にもとづいて中国の金石書や地方志と対照し、銘文の史料性について考えることを課題とし、いずれそれらの総括を報告論文にまとめることにしたい。いまだこの種の全体的な報告はなされていないからである。一方、幸いなことに、昨年末の朝日新聞夕刊の「空白への挑戦」欄は「梵鐘の戦争」と題して、第二次大戦中の金属回収による供出鐘ならびに日本現存の中国鐘がとりあげられた。担当記者にかなりの資料を提供したので、間接ながら啓蒙的な役割をはたしたと思われる。本研究は日本現存中国鐘に限定されるものではなく、中国現存の中国鐘や仏足石も対象である。この課題については本年は資料の蒐集につとめることを中心とした。

As a reporter, we provide information and indirect enlightenment. This study is based on the existing China clock in Japan and the existing China clock in China. This year's data collection is the focus of this topic.
