In order to estimate the pollutant runoff from urbanized and urbanizing areas and their influence on water environment, observation of nutrient fallout has been carried out through a project period. At the same time, quantitative and qualitative investigation has been done in the Honmyo river and its estuary, while mathematical simulation models have been developed based on their results, aiming at the water environmental assessement. It is well known that integrated water management in a river and its watershed becomes necessary in order to attain a sound and sustainable development of water environment. Among all, it becomes more important to estimate the spatial and temporal variations of pollutant loads from point and non-point sources, and to complete their data base which can be utilized by anyone. Investigators have already developed the NUMEROUS-EXTENDED as one of the urban storm drainage models, which enables us to predict the hydrograph and pollutograph from urban areas. The above-mentioned data base becomes available as its input data, and pollutant runoffs from a river basin into the receiving water can be appropriately estimated by its model. On the other hand, qualitative and quantitative observations from the chemical and biological viewpoints have also been carried out through the reaches of the Honmyo river. These observed data become useful for estimating the influences of a nature-friendly levee on the water environment and also those of suspended solids and other pollutant loads by a mathematical simulation model.
