客観的な介護状況には共通性がみられるにもかかわらず、介護者のストレスの程度に差異が生ずることは、かねてより臨床および研究上の関心のひとつとされてきた。そこには介護者のもつ介護問題へのコーピングの仕方が、ひとつの媒介変数として介在していることが想定される。本研究は家族介護者が諸困難に取り組む態度や行動を測定するための尺度を構成するとともに,それらを規定する諸要因を明らかにすることを目的としている。長野県北信地域の在宅要介護老人の主たる介護者(400名)を対象とした調査から得られたデータ(有効回答率76.8%、有効票307名)を用いて分析した。調査は市町村社会福祉協議会の協力を得て行われた。コーピングの測定指標の作成と、その妥当性、信頼性に関して検討を加え、家族介護者のコーピングスタイルの構造と、諸変数(ストレッサー、認知、危機対応資源、ストレス反応など)との関連を検討した。家族介護者のコーピングスタイルを近接型と回避型に分け、さらにそれぞれ行動的、認知的に区分して、行動接近型、行動回避型、認知接近型、認知回避型の4類型を設定した。測定尺度は全体で15項目からなるが、13項目で「する」が「しない」より多く、中でも「自分自身を励ます」「自分は恵まれている方だと思うようにする」は、80%以上が「する」と回答している。全体としては認知型の対処の方がやや多い。因子分析の結果、最適解を得たのは4因子のときであった。コーピングはストレッサー(老人の障害の程度、介護量)に規定され、危機対応資源(副介護者の存在、近隣・友人のサポート)の影響を受け、精神的ストレス反応と強い相関を示した。
